Can we put IM and GC on same domain controller? if yes tell, if not also tell why not?
Whether or not the Infrastructure Master (IM) and Global Catalog (GC) roles can be installed on the same domain controller depends on the specific configuration of the Active Directory environment.
In general, it is recommended to avoid installing the IM and GC roles on the same domain controller in environments with multiple domains and domain controllers. This is because the IM is responsible for updating object references and group membership information between domains, while the GC stores a partial replica of all objects in the Active Directory Forest.
If the IM and GC roles are installed on the same domain controller, there is a risk that the IM may not be able to update object references correctly, as the GC already stores the necessary information. This can result in inconsistencies in group membership information and object references between domains.
However, in environments with a single domain and a single domain controller, it is generally acceptable to install the IM and GC roles on the same domain controller. In this scenario, there is no risk of object reference inconsistencies between domains, as there is only one domain in the environment.
In summary, the decision to install the IM and GC roles on the same domain controller depends on the specific configuration of the Active Directory environment. In general, it is recommended to avoid installing these roles on the same domain controller in environments with multiple domains and domain controllers to minimize the risk of object reference inconsistencies.
