Experienced the following operational errors trying to retrieve replication information

Hello All,

Hope this post finds you in good health and spirit.

Today we are going to troubleshoot one of replication issues- Experienced the following operational errors trying to retrieve replication information. It seems encountering operational errors while trying to retrieve replication information. This can be caused by a variety of issues, often related to network problems, DNS configuration errors, or firewall settings blocking necessary communication between servers.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  • Check Network Connectivity: Ensure that all domain controllers can communicate with each other.

  • Verify DNS Settings: Incorrect DNS settings can lead to replication issues. Use tools like DCDIAG /TEST:DNS to diagnose DNS problems.

  • Check ADDS services- Make sure ADDS related services are up and running properly. use DCDIAG tool to check these services.

  • Review Firewall Settings: Make sure that the required ports for replication are open and not blocked by any firewall rules.
  • Examine Event Logs: Look for any related errors in the Event Logs, particularly in the File Replication Service or Directory Service logs.
  • Force Replication: Try forcing replication with the repadmin /syncall /force command and check for any errors.

Demote and Promote DC: If a domain controller is tombstone, consider demoting and then promoting it again. A tombstone is process in active directory that define how long deleted object can be restored.

Actually, when an object is deleted from Active Directory, it is not physically removed from the Active Directory for some days. it’s marked as a tombstone object instead of being fully removed. the Active Directory sets the ‘isDeleted’ attribute of the deleted object to TRUE and move it to a special container called Tombstone, previously known as CN=Deleted Objects.

So, that’s all in this blog. I will meet you soon with next stuff. Have a nice day!!!
