How data write in AD database?
In Active Directory, data is written to the AD database through a process known as replication, which involves the transfer of directory data between domain controllers. When data is written to one domain controller, it is automatically replicated to other domain controllers in the same domain to ensure that all domain controllers have consistent and up-to-date directory information.
The process of how data is written to the AD database through replication involves the following steps:
- A change is made to the directory data on one domain controller, either through an administrative action or by a user or application.
- The domain controller that made the change creates a replication update message that contains the change and sends it to its replication partners.
- The replication partners receive the update message and apply the change to their local copy of the AD database.
- The replication partners create their own replication update messages that contain the change and send them to their own replication partners.
- The process continues as each replication partner receives and applies the update messages until all domain controllers in the domain have the updated directory data.
Active Directory uses a multi-master replication model, which means that each domain controller has a writable copy of the AD database and can make changes to the directory data. When conflicts occur, such as when two domain controllers make conflicting changes to the same directory object, Active Directory uses a conflict resolution mechanism to resolve the conflict and ensure that the directory data remains consistent and up-to-date across all domain controllers.
By using replication to write data to the AD database, Active Directory ensures that directory data is available and consistent across all domain controllers in the domain, which is important for providing reliable and efficient authentication, authorization, and other directory services.
