How to Reset DSRM Password
This post is regarding what is DSRM mode and how we can reset the DSRM password for one of domain controller. DSRM is Directory Services Restore Mode and its only needed when Active Directory is so damaged that you cannot log on using your normal AD Administrator password.
Today we are going to show how to reset the DSRM password by command line- NTDSUTIL . We can also reset the DSRM password via powershell script for all domain controllers in forest.
Please open the command line console and type ntdsutil.
Type Set dsrm password
Type reset password on server [DC-name]
Give new DSRM password for DC08 domain controller.
Confirm new password
Now DSRM password is reset for DC08 domain controller. To verify it please open the event viewer and select the security event. Filter the 4794 event id that show attempt made to set the directory services restore mode.
