Microsoft upgrade Windows 11 to M1 and M2 Macs

The Macs supported Windows before Apple switched to in-house silicon for the Macs. Nevertheless, Apple pulled off Bootcamp after the M-series chip-powered Macs, leaving customers with a few alternatives, one of which being Parallels.

The workaround has now received Microsoft’s approval. So, yes, you can now officially run Windows 11 on Macs with M1 and M2 series CPUs using Parallels. Microsoft claims that Parallels 18 is the “authorised” way to run Windows 11 on Macs with ARM processors on a help website.

On Macs with M1 and M2 series CPUs, users may run Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 Enterprise in ARM mode. Moreover, it appears that programmes like Windows Subsystem for Android, Windows Sandbox, and Windows Subsystem for Linux that call for an extra virtualization layer are not supported.

Microsoft has said that it would not support games that need DirectX 12 or OpenGL 3.3 or above. Although there are other virtualization solutions that let you run Windows 11 on a Mac, Apple only formally supports Parallels. While there are alternative virtualization options that allow you to run Windows 11 on a Mac, Parallels is the only one that Apple officially supports.

Reports suggest that this is a significant step forward because Parallels users had no means to run Windows 11 on Apple devices, the ARM version of Windows does have severe limitations that prevent users from running certain programmes, games, and some anti-virus solutions.
