What is the path of Sysol and net Logon folders?
The Sysvol and Netlogon folders are important components of an Active Directory (AD) domain, and contain files and settings that are essential for the functioning of the domain. The path of the Sysvol and Netlogon folders depends on the version of Windows Server that is being used and the location of the files on the server.
In general, the default paths of the Sysvol and Netlogon folders are:
- Sysvol: %SystemRoot%\SYSVOL
- Netlogon: %SystemRoot%\SYSVOL\sysvol<domain>\scripts
Here, %SystemRoot% refers to the Windows installation directory, which is typically “C:\Windows”. <domain> refers to the name of the AD domain.
In more recent versions of Windows Server, such as Windows Server 2012 and later, the Sysvol folder is replicated using Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) instead of File Replication Service (FRS). In DFSR environments, the default paths of the Sysvol and Netlogon folders are:
- Sysvol: %SystemRoot%\SYSVOL_DFSR
- Netlogon: %SystemRoot%\SYSVOL_DFSR\sysvol<domain>\scripts
Again, here %SystemRoot% refers to the Windows installation directory, and <domain> refers to the name of the AD domain.
It’s important to note that the actual location of the Sysvol and Netlogon folders may differ from the default paths, particularly if the folders have been moved or redirected. To determine the actual location of the folders, you can use the “Active Directory Users and Computers” console, the “dfsutil” command-line utility, or the “net share” command-line utility.
So, that’s all in this blog. I will meet you soon with next stuff. Have a nice day!!!
