What Is Airplane Mode, and What Happens If You Don’t Use It During Flights?

If you’ve traveled on an airline in the previous decade and had a smartphone, you’ve probably had to put it on airoplane mode before the plane took off. While the majority of us just follow this FAA requirement, have you ever asked why you need to use airoplane mode?

What is airplane mode?

When you set airoplane mode, your phone loses its ability to connect to cellular, WiFi, or Bluetooth networks. This means you can’t make or receive phone calls, send text messages, or access the internet. You can, however, continue to use your phone to snap photographs, listen to music, play games, or create emails/messages to send later. Something that does not require a signal or the internet.

How do you switch it on?

To activate airoplane mode on an iPhone or iPad, slide up from the bottom of the screen. In the menu that appears, there will be a little airoplane icon; simply click it to turn it orange. This indicates that airoplane mode is activated.

Are there any more applications for airoplane mode?

Consider what aeroplane mode does: it prevents you from receiving (or making) calls or sending (or receiving) messages. It also prevents you from idly surfing the web. Oh, the promise for mental and physical well-being and productivity.

Complete some tasks

Consider going on aeroplane mode if you need to focus and do some deep work. Such a relief to no longer have intrusive pop-ups, notifications, or sounds from your smartphone. You may set a time restriction for yourself (you don’t have to leave aeroplane mode on all day). What if your significant other needs to know what you want for dinner? Or does your child need to contact you?). Test it for a couple of hours and see how much you like it.

Charge your phone faster (and save battery life)

When you put your phone in aeroplane mode, it is not continually looking for a wireless network or connection. As a result, your battery will last much longer. If you’ve had a long day and have forgotten your power pack, use aeroplane mode. You’ll get more done, have some piece of mind, and your phone will still be charged when you need it to navigate to that hot new restaurant (or whatever) you’ve been dying to try.
